Our Song

I just read Mrs. H's post over at  My Life Unscripted about the story of how she and her husband met and why they choose their wedding song (At Last by Etta James).  She got the idea from Mama Kats writer's workshop.

I think it's such a good idea for everyone to share their wedding song so that we can all be sentimental nosey together. :)

Our song was Feels Like Home by Edwina Hayes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJe3osgk8Vc&feature=related.  I had heard the song several years before and remember daydreaming to myself during a particularly down time in my life that someday I would love to be able to dance to that song at my wedding.  That was long before I met H and long before I thought I would ever find someone who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

A few years later after we met, fell in love, got engaged, yada, yada, yada, we started the never ending task of planning our wedding.  My mind was so full of other details that I completely forgot about the song and what it had meant to me.  One day we were at the movies and the song started playing during a particularly dramatic scene in the film.  All at once it all just rushed back to me.  How sad I had been when I first heard that song, how lonely I had felt, how desperate I was to find someone to love and I just started bawling like an idiot.  Poor H thought I had lost my mind and did his best to try to scoot over in his seat so as not to be identified by the other movie goers as being with the now historical women next to him. :)  After the movie I explained the significance to him and after lots of tissues and deep breathes (all by me of course), he agreed that we had definitely found our song (we had also found that I was apparently semi-emotionally unstable, but what can ya do).

I love this song more every time I hear it because every word is just so true.  What was your song?

We don't have a song. But I had a very similar experience when I was single and lonely like you were and I wanted the song 'someone like you' by Van Morrison (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFcF4B3AFFI) and I always thought I would dance to that song at my wedding. And then my wedding happened on a dock at my cabin and "dancing" didn't seem appropriate. Unless you count when my "reverend" and her husband dressed up and did THe Perfect Cheer. We didn't have a song at all. We had harp music playing during the beginning before the ceremony started, but unfortunately the venue forgot to turn off the main radio system in our room and so we also heard a local radio station throughout our entire ceremony. I remember hearing "Are you gonna go my way" by Lenny Kravitz right when my dad gave me away, and then John Lennon was singing "All you need is love" right when we said our vows, which... that's pretty cool timing, right? But yeah, we had a wine and cheese and cupcake wedding... no dancing or anything, just mingling. Still good song memories though, even though I was PISSED about the radio thing at the time!

Chorus of our song...
Oh I wonder what God was thinking when he created you,
I wonder if He knew everything I would need,
Because He made all my dreams come true.
When God made you He must've been thinking about me.

Sweet song but it's about all I can remember... lots of planning and then such a whirlwind of a day I can barely remember anything else, said "I Do" so that was the most important:]

ours was "Oh Love" by Braid Paisley and Carrie Underwood. You HAVE to listen to that song if you haven't heard it but the lyrics start out like this:

Strong like a mother holds her child
Free as horses running wild
And real as a prayer on a lonely night
And sure as the ocean tide

Oh love
Oh love
Oh the many colors that you're made of
You heal
You bleed
You're the simple truth
And you're the biggest mystery
Oh love
Oh Love

I actually wanted YOUR song, but Rik had shared that song w/ another female (along with several others) so I was overjoyed when I found our wedding song (first dance) and we neither one had ever heard it before!

I love your song... it's one I considered as well. I let Josh pick our song and it wouldn't have been my first choice by a long stretch, but give and take. It was "You and Me" by Lifehouse.

I wanted "By Your Side" by Sade or "Heavenly Day" by Patty Griffin. There were a few others as well.

I love your song!! It was my bff and her hubs song at their wedding too and I get goosebumps every time I hear it!

Ready for a laugh? Our song was Stuck on You by Lionel Richie. Now that you are done laughing... here is the words that caught me:)

I've got this feeling down deep in my soul that I just can't lose
Guess I'm on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now I guess I'll be with you 'til the end
Guess I'm on my way
Mighty glad you stayed

I love that song!! I never knew who sang it but I've heard it quite a few times (enough to know the words) but for some reason thought someone else sang it! Loved reading through the comments. Great post!

I love your song too!

We technically have two songs. The song we officially danced to at our wedding was "When a Man Loves a Woman," because the first song we ever danced to (over a decade earlier at my Sweet 16 when we weren't even dating) was that song and it just fit. But we also have the song Patience, by Guns 'n Roses. The night he proposed we went to see a friend's band gig and they dedicated that song to us. We played it as the last song of the night at our wedding. Love it!
